Daniel Gower is an artist, musician, poet, and writer based in Swansea. He holds an MA in Fine Art from the University of Trinity St David. His primary artistic mediums are acrylic, gouache, and watercolour painting, though he has also experimented with other forms including illustration, charcoal, sketching, digital art, and pencil.
He works every day to create in whatever way is possible and has developed an extensive body of work. He aims to continue creating while also experimenting with different forms of media and expression.
Other creative pursuits include creating and producing music, writing both novels and short stories, and composing poetry.
The theme of this exhibition is the lesser seen, incorporating both the liminal and the surreal. The liminal aspects explore moments of life that are normally overlooked—scenes glimpsed briefly from a passing car, landscapes that appear abandoned, and environments that exist in a quiet in-between state. Liminal space aesthetics were a major inspiration for the landscape pieces, alongside the idea of depicting places that someone might travel to in order to find peace.
The surrealist pieces within the exhibition focus on emotional, metaphorical, comedic, visceral, and ontological aspects of the internal world. These works include distortions and reinterpretations of the human form, the creation of flora that does not exist in the natural world, and Dadaist combinations of living and non-living lifeforms.
These two subjects are combined because they share inherent qualities: a deviation from the familiar, an uncanny atmosphere, and the openness that allows viewers to form multiple interpretations of the works.
Daniel is also a member of the elysium gallery artists studios community.
