Celebration of Sacramento Poet Laureate Andru Defeye

Join us as for a reception at City Hall as we acknowledge the significant impact and contributions of our most recent Sacramento Poet Laureate, Andru Defeye!

Serving from 2020-2024, Andru spearheaded the expansion of Sacramento Poetry Day into Sacramento Poetry Week, inspired thousands of spoken word and literary artists through unique collaborations and partnerships, created groundbreaking literary arts education curriculum, connected seniors with life-long learning in the arts, championed mental health and equitable pay for poets, and will be launching his first poetry book UNLOCKED: The Laureate Years the evening of April 14th at the Sacramento Poetry Center.
