Marlene Joan Hall passed away at the age of 77 on February 22, 2026, in the presence of her son, Ryan after a long battle with dementia. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and an unwavering belief in the beauty of life’s "small stuff."
Born on June 10, 1948, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Anne and Peter Lupkoski, Marlene grew up alongside her brothers: Brian, Alvin, and Larry. A senior pin at Mount Royal Collegiate Institute (1965-66), and completion of secretarial school put her on a path to a long and successful career with the City Clerk’s office at City Hall in Saskatoon, where she was a fixture in many committee and Council meetings. She was a lifelong learner who was a voracious reader, continued learning student (University of Saskatchewan), bridge and mahjong player, dinner party enthusiast, and music & theatre lover. Most of all, she loved watching her children grow and succeed in life.
In her younger years, Marlene cherished many family vacations to Fairmont in BC, creating memories that she held dear throughout her life. She was an avid flower arranger in those years, even entering competitions. Professionally, she dedicated many years to her work at City Hall, where she took great pride in her accomplishments and deeply valued the friendships of her colleagues. She was a mentor to many, and a fierce advocate for the equity of women in the workplace. She was a true leader.
On May 16, 1970, she married her best friend, Fred Hall, beginning a journey defined by deep loyalty and love.
Marlene’s greatest strength was her heart. As a devoted wife and mother, she navigated the complexities of raising three teenagers while providing tireless, loving care for Fred. Despite the challenges of his sudden disability, she always maintained an amazingly positive outlook, frequently reminding those she loved that her husband was her best friend.
Marlene found peace in simple rituals: a quiet morning on her patio with a book and a coffee, or the magic of a performance at Persephone Theatre. Though life’s circumstances later limited her physical travel, she remained an explorer at heart, taking "dream trips" through her large collection of travel videos. She also found simple happiness walking her daughter Carla’s dog, Hunter, at the park. She often said it’s important to celebrate the small stuff, like making it through a tough day, getting a good report card, or finishing a course.
Marlene was, through and through, a good person who stressed the importance of taking care of the vulnerable and leaving the world better than you found it. This was reflected in her lifelong support of many causes, including sponsoring children in need and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Marlene is predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Hall; her daughter, Carla; her parents, Anne and Peter; her niece, Jennifer; and her nephew, Brandon. Her memory and her spirit will be carried forward by her sons, Ryan and Warren, her brothers, and the many family members and friends who will miss her regular gatherings and her gentle wisdom.
In Marlene’s honor, the family encourages you to "celebrate the small stuff" today, and to remember her infectious smile and laugh that so many people remember.
