About this Event
Join WOEIP and our partners at the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for a celebration marking the halfway point of the West Oakland Community Action Plan. Coinciding with the release of our 5-year Progress Report, which measures WOCAP’s impact on reducing neighborhood air pollution, we’re hosting an end-of-year open house to celebrate our successes so far.
Community representatives, technical partners, and local and regional agency staff will be on hand to discuss the many ways this historic initiative has successfully reduced air pollution emissions and exposure throughout West Oakland.
Hear insights and learnings from special guests
Hear the unique perspectives of our guest speakers who have been pivotal to the WOCAP process:
Veronica Eady, Resources Legacy Fund
Davida Herzl, Aclima
Paul Cort, Earthjustice
Get face-time with regulators and policy-makers
Chat directly with the government staff who are responsible for implementing the community’s 80+ strategies. Members from the following agencies will be available to answer questions and share information about the many ways they’ve been implementing the WOCAP strategies:
- Bay Area Air Quality Management District: BAAQMD co-leads the WOCAP Steering Committee alongside WOEIP.
- California Air Resources Board: CARB oversees the AB 617 legislative process statewide. West Oakland has broken new ground as the legislation’s pilot community.
- City of Oakland: OakDOT and other city departments work closely with WOEIP to ensure resident voices inform the city planning and development work their teams are doing every day.
- Port of Oakland: The Port is the biggest landowner in West Oakland, and is the biggest source of air pollution in the neighborhood. Their partnership in the WOCAP process is critical for reducing emissions and exposure.
Non-governmental project partners and WOEIP staff will also be on hand to connect you to WOEIP’s exciting neighborhood development work throughout West Oakland.
Connect with your community
Last year, more than 150 people showed up to celebrate WOCAP together. With family-friendly activities in a community setting, it’s a great way to gather in celebration of all we can accomplish together.
Come meet your neighbors this November 6th, celebrate cleaner air in West Oakland, and build community with us!
