Join us at the Northwest Maritime Center for a free, family-friendly waterfront celebration marking the return of the Western Flyer to Port Townsend—where the vessel was brought back to life through a multi-year restoration.Step aboard the Western Flyer, a 1937 fishing vessel made famous by John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts, now operating as a working research vessel and floating classroom.
What to expect:
1:00–6:30 PM – Community event with music, food, and drinks
1:00–5:30 PM – Free public tours of the Western Flyer
4:00 PM – Featured talk: Restoring the Western Flyer with Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op
Come explore the vessel, meet the crew and educators, and learn how the Western Flyer now supports hands-on ocean science and student programs across the region.
