Please join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of Jerry Henderson, a beloved champion for our community.Jerry Henderson joined the Creative Arts Guild Board of Directors in July of 2015. From that moment on, the Creative Arts Guild has been supported by Jerry—his voice, his presence, and his unwavering belief in what this Guild could be.
Jerry’s life was a reflection of creativity and connection. Born and raised in Waycross, Georgia, and a graduate of Georgia Southern University, he built a remarkable career as a product designer and colorist in the carpet industry—bringing beauty, innovation, and artistry into the spaces where people live and work. But what defined Jerry even more than his professional success was how fully he showed up in the world around him.
He was deeply engaged in our community and his profession—from his work with the International Interior Design Association and the Color Marketing Group, to his leadership here at the Guild as Fundraising Chairman and long-time board member, where he helped bring countless programs and events to life in support of the arts and arts education.
Jerry gave his time and energy generously—to the American Cancer Society, to the Whitfield Education Foundation, to the Alzheimer’s Association, and to The GreenHouse, where he used his design talents to help create a place of comfort and care for children and families.
Wherever there was a need, Jerry was there—enthusiastic, committed, and never taking "No" for an answer.
If you knew Jerry, you knew his loyalty and his fierce focus. You also knew “He was a bird” - a lighthearted colorful and most unique individual who brought joy to everyone he knew. He was a true Southern gentleman who never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel seen, included, and valued. He loved people, and he loved bringing people together.
Jerry was more than a Guild organizational leader. He was also a dear friend and a constant source of joy and encouragement. His impact is woven into the fabric of this Guild and this community, and it will continue to shape us for years to come.
We invite you to join us for a reception and celebration of Jerry’s life on Wednesday, May 27th 5-7pm in Gallery FIVE20.
