Join The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators and Schools for an exclusive screening of —the first-ever Mexican stop-motion animated feature film—plus a special discussion with the filmmakers Arturo and Roy Ambriz. The keynote conversation will explore the power of horror as a storytelling tool, horror’s deep roots in Mexican culture, and the importance of nurturing creativity and the arts for students of all backgrounds.
The pre-reception will feature Latin American and children’s literature inspired by the film’s themes, plus a special display of the original Frankelda animation puppet.
About Soy Frankelda | Created by brothers Arturo and Roy Ambriz, this 2025 animated supernatural comedy horror film celebrates creative writing and the imaginative worlds children build when they find their voice through storytelling.
The screening will be in Spanish with English subtitles. The conversation with the directors will be conducted in English.
Light refreshments will be served.
Arturo and Roy Ambriz are Mexican writers, directors, producers, and founders of Cinema Fantasma, a prominent stop-motion animation studio based in Mexico City. They wrote and directed the acclaimed stop-motion medium-length film Revoltoso and the award-winning series .
