About this Event
Among the multitude of dance expressions in Southern California, Benita Bike’s DanceArt holds a special place as a company working in the modern dance style/state-of-mind. The Company strives to create expressive movement that fills the space architecturally with line and design. Benita Bike’s DanceArt is known for creating original dance works for the stage and presenting these works both in concert settings as well as in unique “Explore Dance” programs produced in neighborhood sites. This 45th Anniversary show will feature concert works created between 2017 and 2026:
▪ Premiere of a New Work set to gamelan music and an original composition by Dean Wallraff
▪ From Where I Sit – Different characters share their states of mind in vignettes titled “Ascending,” “Tired of it All,” “Corruptor,” “Solace,” & “On Edge.”
▪ Aspects of Me – A celebration of the complexity of self with solos and duets titled “Me and Myself,” “Me and the Branch,” “Me and Her,” and “We.”
▪ Schoenfield Dances – with music that melds early 20th century popular dance styles - rag, shuffle, and boogie - with a classical movement sensibility
▪ Benches – People in a park playing, talking, relaxing
