The Order of the Company of Mary Our Lady was founded in
Bordeaux, France, in 1607 by Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac, niece of
the French humanist philosopher Michel de Montaigne. She was
inspired to respond to the most urgent need of her time, the
establishment of formal educational institutions for girls. The Order quickly expanded throughout Europe and beyond, reaching the“New World” in 1754 and finally the United States in 1926. The
Order’s educational institutions continue to serve the needs of our
young people today. The sisters continue to brave new challenges
with passionate zeal and dedication. Thank you for celebrating withus the mission of our sisters throughout these 100 years in the
United States.
As we celebrate this centennial year, we are honored to share their
remarkable story and invite you to join us in celebrating this legacy
through the many special events planned throughout the year.
