SCRIM, the dog who ran away with the hearts of the nation, is having his day and celebrating his new book at DAT DOG on 5030 FRERET ST, SATURDAY NOV. 22nd, 12pm to 3pm. Audiences are invited to share this delightful book on the tale of his tail, "Scrim My Tail: As Told to Margaret Orr," with author MARGARET ORR and illustrator MATT RINARD during an afternoon of live readings, drawing demonstrations, and music, PLUS a menu of Scrim-themed eats, all to raise funds for the KREWE of BARKUS to support various animal welfare organizations as well as their Barkus Cares Fund.
The festivities for our four-legged hero kick off at 12pm with a live musical performance by Southern Americana singer-songwriter Zack O’Quinn and lunch featuring a Scrim-a-licious menu of Scrim Specials, such as the “Runaway Scrim” hot dog and the “Scrim Spritz” cocktail. Dat Dog will be donating a percentage of all proceeds accrued during this event to the Krewe of Barkus. Individual donations will also be encouraged.
Starting at 1pm, Margaret Orr, WDSU Chief Meteorologist Emeritus and the muse behind the Krewe of Barkus inception, will bring the true story of wily mutt Scrim and his adventures on the streets of New Orleans to life with a live reading, followed by an interactive “How to Draw Scrim” demonstration with illustrator Matt Rinard, official artist for the Krewe of Barkus and owner of Gallery Rinard, at 1:30pm. Kids (and kids at heart) will be invited to create their own versions of Scrim with coloring sheets provided by the artist and plenty of markers, crayons, and other art supplies to make him unique! Everyone will enjoy more live music, creative activities, and Scrim-tastic food while Margaret Orr returns with an encore reading around 2:30pm. Books, as well as prints by Matt Rinard, will be available to purchase and have signed throughout the event.
It's going to be a fun-for-all afternoon at Dat Dog Freret! Don't miss the MOST FUN opportunity to get a signed copy of the book that's such a good read, it will definitely make you "sit" and "stay!"
