The Grove will be open all afternoon from 2pm for visitors to enjoy this green oasis in the heart of the city. Botanist Catriona Brady will lead the workshop group (booking is necessary) to find the botanical beauties of the Grove.
Plant samples collected the cyanotype workshop will start with Visual Artist Sarah Louise Lordan. Photographic cyanotypes were first used in the early 19th century by botanist Anna Atkins.
Anna merged scientific accuracy and artistic beauty in pioneering photograms that documented botanical specimens. She self published the first book of photographic illustrations of algae.
Attendees will use photograms, the technique of creating photographic prints without using a camera is as old as photography itself.
This is a free unique event please book on Eventbrite — for over 14 years.
This workshop will document the significance of this urban green space, the plant species present and pay homage to our benefactor Kathleen Goodfellow and her artist friend Estelle Solomons.
