🌍 1st International Conference of the Central & Eastern European Security Hub Between Peripheries: Critical-Relational Security from CEE and the Global South.The war in Ukraine has pushed security to the center of European politics, but it has also exposed enduring hierarchies around whose security matters and who gets to define it. While Central and Eastern Europe has gained visibility, dominant security frameworks still prioritize Western state actors, sidelining lived experiences, grassroots knowledge, and marginalized voices. Similar dynamics shape security debates across the Global South, where security is often experienced as precarity rather than protection.
This conference invites a critical-relational rethinking of security 🤝 by bringing CEE (and the Global East) into dialogue with the Global South. Rather than treating CEE as exceptional, we explore shared global structures of inequality, militarization, and exclusion and ask what alternative visions of peace, care, and solidarity can emerge.
Designed as a space for dialogue across disciplines and positionalities, the conference brings together scholars, practitioners, activists, and policymakers 🎓✊. The program includes panels, informal networking, a cultural-historical excursion to Lasnamäe 🏙️, and a social program engaging with local Estonian culture 🇪🇪.
