About the artist - Sulsameethl Deb George
Sulsameethl has lived in the Cowichan Valley her whole life. She is of mixed ancestry - Cowichan, Scottish and English and believes that has given her a unique lens to see the world through. She is an educator, an artist and a social justice activist. Sulsa’meethl is also an expert weaver. For her, weaving is a family activity, from the harvesting of cedar to the preparation of the bark for weaving. The experience of weaving is more than creating an object, it has been about the transfer of cultural knowledge between generations and shared with audiences eager to learn. It is about connecting with the land. Sulsameethl has led workshops on cedar weaving for diverse audiences and made regalia for cultural ceremony.
Family friendly, all ages welcome. No prior experience necessary. Limited spots - space is limited to 15 participants. Register early.
Cost for workshop: $150 (this includes $60 for materials).
No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to request a different amount, please contact [email protected] from Quw'utsun' Cultural Connections Society.
