Causey Pike is one of many Wainwright fells in the beautiful Coledale Valley. Whilst a rewarding walk to the summit alone, we have combined this walk with some of the surrounding peaks, making it a good choice when bagging Wainwright’s during the autumn season. Although not the full Coledale Round, this circular walk will feature Causey Pike, Scar Crags, Outerside and Barrow. The trail starts from the village of Braithwaite and the initial ascent takes you up through wooded slopes and onto the open fellside. The path continues towards the striking summit of Causey Pike (657m), recognisable by its jagged outline and knobbly top. The final approach to the summit involves a short scramble, adding a touch of excitement to the climb. Once on the summit, you’re rewarded with panoramic views stretching over the Newlands Valley, towards the distant Skiddaw range and down to Derwent Water. From Causey Pike, the walk continues along a ridge towards the highest point of this walk Scar Crags (672m). This section of the walk is particularly scenic, with the narrow ridge offering expansive views on either side. The terrain here is rugged yet straightforward, with the undulating path keeping the walk interesting as you head towards the next peak. After reaching Scar Crags, the route descends towards Outerside (568m), a smaller fell with a gentle slope and more subdued character compared to the rugged peaks earlier in the walk. From Outerside, the path leads to Stile End, before reaching Barrow (455m) another modest summit that offers a final vantage point before the descent back to Braithwaite.Members, this walk is included in your membership.
