About this Event
Cats have been an integral part of ships' life for hundreds of years. In Australia, cats were vital members of the crew onboard vessels big and small. Cats joined the ranks as expert ratters and mousers but also as champion cuddlers and loyal companions.
Come and join Dr Stewart, the Cat Historian, as she shares stories of the ship’s cat and how a clowder of domestic cats became some of our most intrepid seafarers.
Dr Jodie Stewart teaches History at the University of Wollongong. She has a particular interest in resurrecting the stories of animals from Australia’s past and is currently researching the history of cat companionship in Australia. Jodie lives on Djiringanj country with her two cats, a staffy and a very naughty bulldog.
