About this Event
Madelon Umlauf (1942-2025) was a talented artist and respected educator born and raised in Austin, Texas. The daughter of famed sculptor Charles Umlauf and poet Angie Umlauf, Madelon grew up in a very creative environment. Madelon’s family legacy includes the beloved UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and Museum, which they gifted to The City of Austin in 1985.
Madelon created her own identity as an abstract painter and taught painting for more than 30 years at Austin Community College. Her own work blended the beauty of nature with the abstract, and she always encouraged her students to test the bounds of their creativity.
This exhibition will feature a collection of her final works, which embody her lifelong pursuit of “Catching the Light” - whether she was chasing the perfect light for a photo, or surrounding herself with bright, effervescent people, Madelon made a point to catch the light in everything she did.
