THE WALK: This is a circular trail near Portsea. Generally considered a moderately challenging trail, it is a popular area for birdwatching and hiking.
Built in 1852 the Point Nepean Quarantine Station was established for quarantine purposes as ships were coming into Victoria. The ships would raise a yellow flag to notify of illnesses on board.
The station was also used by the Army (1952-1998) and the Kosovo Refugees utilized it in 1999. Dating back to the 1880's, this area was used extensively by the military for the protection of Victoria preventing unwanted ships from entering Port Phillip Bay. The location consists of things such as Observation Points, The First Gun Fired in WW1 and WW2 plus much more. Lots of history and beautiful views of Port Phillip Bay and surrounds. A walk full of history and natural beauty.
