About this Event
Join us at Casa Caracol for a special Open Mic night of community, performance, and to fundraise for Jacob "Yaakub" Vijandre -- a Dallas-area activist, DACA recipient, and artist who used his platform to document Palestinian rights advocacy and human-rights activism. In October, he was detained by ICE and has yet to be released. This isn’t just about Yaakub. It’s about the safety and dignity of every immigrant and the protection of our First Amendment rights.
Between Open Mic performances, hear from Yaakub himself as we recite notes he has shared with us while in detention. A letter writing station will also be available to write letters to Yaakub that will be mailed to him.
Suggested Donation: $20.00 (or pay what you are able)
Schedule:
- 6:30pm: Doors & Open Mic sign-up begin
- 7-9 pm: Open Mic + Notes FROM Yaakub
All ticket proceeds go to Yaakub's family to pay for legal and ancillary fees incurred while he is in detention.
If you are unable to attend, we encourage you to donate to Yaakub's family GoFundMe at: www.tinyurl.com/FreeYaakub
