Saturday 2nd May - celebrate 30 years of trains back to Carrog. This year sees the 30th anniversary of the reopening of Carrog station following completion of the Llangollen Railway extension from Glyndyfrdwy.
The station closed to goods traffic in May 1964 and to passengers that December. Alan Young took this rather poignant photograph of the derelict platforms in August 1976. The station house and waiting rooms were saved by becoming a private residence.
Some 20 years later the station reopened, beautifully restored. In the following years the signalling was fully reinstated and today Carrog remains a picture-postcard country station. It also served as the LR’s terminus for over 25 years until Corwen Station was opened in 2023.
Save the date and watch out for more details of what we have planned to mark this happy and special anniversary.
