Carnaval celebrates the end of the holiday season before the introspection of Lent begins, culminating in Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday." This season, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois will mark the occasion with music and dance from Argentina, Italy and New York-with brilliant Tango, Mambo and Swing dancing.
Patrons are invited to bring Mardi Gras masks and dress up to dance and play casino games in the Lobby beginning at 6pm. Jim Pugh,trombone, Larry Gray, bass and accordion, and Ricardo Flores, percussion will be providing a brilliant jazz tribute to the festival, followed by the Central Illinois Youth Chorus and the winners of the First Carnaval! Kids Singing Competition. There will be a family crafts section with face painting and an opportunity for children to make their own guitars and play with the band. At 7:30, all will process into the Great Hall for an unforgettable concert. Dancing will follow in the Lobby. Carnaval! is a dazzling, lively event that will be fun for the whole family!
Families can purchase tickets at special price levels: half price for the second adult, accompanying kids are free, by using the code FAMILY at the ticket office.
