About this Event
Carla Fontanilla presents a workshop to help equip intermediate uke players with fundamental blues and jazz skills and techniques through chord progressions, scales, and styles to complement their existing skills. Players will explore in different songs how applying varying chord patterns, substitutions, scales, “groove-driven” rhythmic expressions and strumming variations skills open wide the fun and enjoyment of blues, jazz and hybrid playing.
Taught by her Dad, Roland, to play uke at age 4, Carla also learned from him the art of listening to music and appreciating its many forms. Calling both Hawaii and California home, Carla's singing and ukulele and guitar playing in her bands, Kua'aina, SoLunAire and Iola Rose, represent her love of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music, American Jazz standards, rock 'n roll, blues, swing, Latin jazz, Americana, Motown, R&B, surf, reggae, pop, country and countless other musical iterations.
