Saxophonist, Composer, and Santa Clara University's Director of Jazz Studies, Carl Schultz has this to say about his eight movement suite coming out on Origin Records:The Road to Trantor is the soundtrack to a science fiction movie that only exists in my head. When I began composing the music for this album I noticed that, in their earliest phase, the pieces sounded cinematic. They fit certain roles like ‘music for the closing credits of a film’ or ‘love theme’. As each piece progressed, I asked myself what was the plot these pieces fit into? I had been re-reading various Hugo Award winners and turned to my copy of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation. While I did not want to create a soundtrack to that novel, I pulled in ideas from throughout Asimov’s Foundation Universe and applied them to plot devices that would exist in a more standard science fiction or science fantasy narrative.
Come hear The Road To Trantor performed live at Art Boutiki in San Jose. This special performance is being held on the day the album is released to the public!
