This will be an opportunity to network with academic colleagues and hear from two speakers on research opportunities in training and managing setbacks. Info: Aim: To promote an understanding of the uniqueness in the management of dental trauma in children and adolescents and the influence of growth and development on treatment planning.

Objectives:
- Familiarise the participants with the impact of growth and development in dento-alveolar trauma
- Understand how growth can influence healing and outcomes
- Emphasise an understanding of patho-physiology of trauma in children and how that might influence choice of treatment
- Promote biological approaches, rather than technique-orientated approaches to management
- Familiarise participants with techniques for the assessment and the immediate, and long term management of some injuries

To provide an overview of common paediatric haematological conditions and their implications for dental care, enabling the dental team to deliver safe, appropriate, and well-coordinated treatment.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Be familiar with common paediatric haematological conditions encountered in dental practice
- Understand the potential oral and systemic implications relevant to dental care
- Identify key risks, including bleeding, infection, and treatment-related complications
- Apply appropriate modifications to dental treatment planning and delivery
- Know when and how to liaise with paediatric haematology teams to support safe patient management

Info: Aim: To share an honest personal account of becoming a parent to a medically complex child while working as a paediatric dentist, exploring how this challenged my identity, exposed my limits, and led me towards a more compassionate, “good enough” mindset.


Brief objectives: By the end of this session, participants should be able to:

- Describe how becoming a parent of a medically complex child can disrupt professional identity and sense of self.
- Recognise the impact of high health literacy and self‑imposed pressure on how clinician‑parents experience illness, decision‑making and “coping”.
- Reflect on the importance of boundaries and acknowledging personal limitations in sustaining wellbeing and compassionate clinical practice.
- Consider how resilience and mindset can be reframed away from perfectionism towards self‑compassion, flexibility and seeking support.
