Established in 1877, the Greenwood Cemetery sits neglected and forgotten just south of Downtown St Pete, but it is one of St Pete's oldest cemeteries and is home to some interesting stories and notable residents. Join us during CareFest to make a big effort to bring some TLC to this site and surrounding areas. The city will be hosting a lunch at noon for all volunteers. The Roser Park CareFest Committee has identified three problem areas to tackle:
- in and around Greenwood Cemetery
- Roser Park Northern Greenspaces
- 6th Street Bicycle/Pedestrian Pathways
with the focus being Greenwood Cemetery itself. The committee is coordinating with Greenwood Cemetery's trust management and Rui Farias of the St Petersburg Museum of History to ensure that our efforts are appropriate and respectful.
* If you know of an arborist who can donate their expertise to assessing the condition of the trees within the cemetery, please reach message us on Facebook or reach out to [email protected]. There is one concerning tree in particular that is threatening to take down the cemetery wall.
* We know that the cemetery has been lucky to have other groups take care of it in the past. If you are an organization that has would like to in the future, email [email protected] so we can coordinate efforts.
