Join us for your Cardiff University Ph*rm*cy (MPharm) Online Interview. Your interview is a great opportunity for us to find out more about you and for you to ask us anything you’d like to know about our MPharm programme or studying at Cardiff. We want to make sure that we are the right fit for each other so that you have every chance of succeeding in your studies and in your future career.

The interview will be conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams. (You can join a meeting using the Teams mobile apps, desktop applications for Windows and Mac or online in browser).

We will send your Teams link and interviewer details by email approximately two days before the interview date you have selected. Use this link to join your interview at the time you have selected.

Important information about your interview

The Ph*rm*cy profession’s independent regulator – the General Pharmaceutical Council – has introduced new standards for the initial education and training of Pharmacists in Great Britain. As part of these new standards, Schools of Ph*rm*cy are tasked with exploring applicants’ professional behaviours, values and basic numeracy skills before they are offered a place to study Ph*rm*cy.

As such, your interview with one of our academic staff members will include the following elements:

• A brief introductory discussion about your motivation for applying to study Ph*rm*cy and why you would like to join our School and become a pharmacist.

• You’ll then watch a short film which shows a Ph*rm*cy student holding a patient consultation whilst on placement. We’ll discuss what you think the student did well and what they could have done better.

• We will also show you (on screen) a few example scenarios that you may encounter either as a Ph*rm*cy student or as a Ph*rm*cy practitioner. You are then asked to comment on how you may appropriately respond in these situations. Don’t worry, we don’t expect you to know all the answers! The aim of this exercise is to help inform our discussion about the kinds of judgments that pharmacists have to make and how they interact with patients, peers and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient health.

• Finally, you will complete some basic calculations just so that we can be sure you have the numeracy skills which all Ph*rm*cy students need before they start our MPharm programme. Again, do not worry - this is not a very demanding maths test, it is simply to ensure a basic level of handling numbers. Please note you will not be able to use a calculator for these questions.

• You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

If you have any questions about your interview, please get in touch by email on Ph*rm*[email protected] or by calling the admissions team on: 02922 510159.

We want the interview to be a meaningful and rewarding experience for you, we very much look forward to seeing you soon and wish you the very best of luck!

Student Code of Conduct and Fitness to Practice:

The General Pharmaceutical Council (the Ph*rm*cy regulatory body) introduced a Student Code of Conduct and Fitness to Practice procedures in Schools of Ph*rm*cy in 2010. As a result, students are expected to evidence good character and adequate health status. This means, if you are made an offer at our School which you accept, we need to conduct a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at some point in your period of registration as a Ph*rm*cy student. Further information can be found on the relevant websites at https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview Failure to undergo such a check/registration, or coming to light of past inappropriate behaviour, may result in a student being unable to complete the course.

Criminal Convictions:

In relation to the criminal convictions’ entry on your UCAS application, please note that for Ph*rm*cy and other health professions a formal caution is treated as a conviction and should be declared to us. Equally, if a caution or conviction arises after your UCAS application has been submitted, this should also be declared to us.

Disabilities:

The Cardiff School of Ph*rm*cy welcomes applications from students with disabilities/learning difficulties and would like to reassure applicants that decisions to admit students are based solely on their academic achievements and relevant personal qualities. The school has a Disability Contact, Dr Cosslett, who is the first point of contact for students who have any queries about disability issues please email us on Ph*rm*[email protected] if you have any questions you would like sent to Dr Cosslett. For further advice we strongly recommend that prospective students contact the University’s Disability Advisor on ext. 74610 / [email protected] or the Dyslexia Resource Centre ext. 74528 / [email protected]

We encourage students with disabilities/learning difficulties to disclose their disability and/or needs as early as possible to ensure that appropriate support and adjustments to the curriculum can be made. If you did not disclose a disability on your UCAS form you may wish to inform us at this stage.
