Carbon Capture and Storage is a critical technology for decarbonisation and is set to play an important role as the world moves to a low-carbon energy future. Especially for a carbon intenstive state like WA. This event will explore the potential of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology in Australia's journey towards decarbonisation and a cleaner energy future. Our expert presenters will provide an overview of CCS technology, insights into the Cygnus CCS Project, and the role that CCS can support decarbonisation in ammonia production, and other hard to abate industries, with true abatement of CO2.

Rosie Johnstone – Chair of CCUS Network Australia, Head of CCS Solutions at GeoVault.

In this presentation, Rosie will provide an overview of carbon capture and storage technology, how it can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and where this technology could be used to support decarbonisation activities in the energy transition. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the critical role that CCS could play in facilitating a low-carbon energy future and its significance in the energy transition.

Jabin Mullane – Opportunity Lead at Mitsui E&P Australia

The Cygnus Hub is MEPAU’s Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) development planned with WesCEF in the Mid-West of Western Australia. Jabin will share an overview of this exciting project, including reference case and development concept, and provide insights into key decisions regarding transport options, the types of storage for CCS projects and why the Mid west is an ideal candidate for a CCS project.

Mussaret Nagree – General Manager, Climate Opportunities at WesCEF

The demand for ammonia is expected to grow significantly by 2050 to support the world’s transitions to low-carbon energy sources. Mussaret’s presentation will discuss the importance of decarbonising ammonia, which is increasingly being used in the mining of critical minerals, and how emerging technologies like CCS can support the production of low carbon, or ‘blue’ ammonia.
