Carapace for July: SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?

We’ve all been there. A perpetual thought-loop. A Catch-22. Dante’s Purgatorio. An ill-advised trip to Waffle House. When The Clash sang about this seminal quandary in 1982, they laid it all out: “If I go there will be trouble / If I stay there will be double.”
So, when were you caught in the in-between, or, the upside-down? Were you torn about leaving a job? A marriage? A city? A way of being?
Tell us about a time when you were poised at the brink, maybe bogged down with indecision. (Me tienes que decir!)
We promise not to tease, tease, tease. We’re always at Manuel’s Tavern on the fourth Tuesday of the month; this time, that means Tuesday, July 23 at 7p. You don’t even have to make up your mind in advance because we adore story connoisseurs of all varieties—tellers and listeners alike. You can throw your name in the hat after you arrive. See ya there!
Notes for a more decisive storytelling experience…*no notes (even and especially on your cellphone)*no political rants*no stand-up comedy routinesThis is OG storytelling, like our ancestors used to do around the fire at night.
*FREE* STORY COACHING: We tend to be at Manuel’s by 6p on the night of the show. If you’d like a little coaching as you prepare to get up on that mic, please feel free to arrive in the hour before to talk through your story’s points for some potential ideas or help with shaping it.
VOLUNTEERS: We always need volunteers to make our events run smoother. Roles include:
*greet people at the door and encourage sign-ups
*keep up the tradition with the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff
*be our personal paparazzi! (take photos)
Please let us know if you’d like to volunteer!
STORYTELLING TIPS: Set-up = Delivery. There’s a simple notion in storytelling that, if you introduce something important at the beginning of your story, it needs to pay off at the end. In other words, Chekhov’s gun must go off. Comics refer to it “the callback.” How can you create a frame where there’s a set-up in the beginning that comes back around at the end?
