About this Event
Dr David Mitchell
In 2014 David was asked to lead the recovery operation following the library fire at Glasgow School of Art.
As the first civilian to enter the building with emergency services he knew this would be a unique and very emotional experience. As a photographer and heritage professional he understood the importance of documentation and set out to record his experience.
These images have largely not been seen in public before but after ten years it is time to share them.
About David
David has worked in the heritage sector for over thirty years. He is a Director of Historic Environment Scotland responsible for properties, collections and archives, and also science, technology, skills and materials. He has been a photographer much longer than that and in recent years has returned to analogue photography and film in particular. In 2014 he led the recovery operation at GSA following the Library fire and documented the events of that week.

John Irvine
John will be speaking about his work with long form documentary projects undertaken in recent years.
These projects cross many themes, in particular social and historical divides.
John will give an insight into his approach, his creative process and what he hopes to achieve from it.
About John
I'm a self taught photographer, which means lots of failed photographs and projects along the way! However I have managed to create a few projects along the way that add some intrigue.
Based in the central belt of Scotland, but originally from Northern Ireland, I have made work on the peace lines of Belfast, the Firth of Forth and Scotlands Highest communities.
I am a father of 4 boys who manages to take far less photos than I would like!
