Capital Sessions is back at the NAC on May 24th from 1:30 to 3:30 PM with our Asian Heritage Month Edition featuring DJ John Arano and Dancer Tangent! It's a free community house dance practice brought to you by Tangent and Rise Ashen! The DJ plays deep soulful house for 2 hours straight and there are two 30-minute workshops (at 1:30 and 2:30) by our guest dancers. The instruction is visual (no screaming 1-2-3-4) and the class portion is optional, you can do you, or learn some steps! You can hang out, there's seating, an awesome cafe, great family-friendly house music and an awesome community vibe. It's a rare chance to learn some house dance steps from an amazing dancer and hear the freshest new global house music played by a world-class DJ on a great soundsystem! Come share-vibe and enjoy the music! Did I mention it's FREE??? If you want to mark your calendars ahead of time, the next NAC Capital Sessions is June 28th, talent will be announced as we go forward!Tangent
House Dancer, B-Girl and designer Tangent has been performing and teaching dance since the nineties. She got hooked on the underground sounds of house and breaks in the first wave of Rave culture and never looked back. As founding member of the all-woman B-Girl Crew DECYPHER CRU (2000-2010), co-director of the house dance collective Capital Sessions (2008-present) and resident instructor at the Flava Factory Dance Studio (2011-2023) she has been choreographing, performing, organizing events, teaching and studying dance for more than 25 years. Having a trained visual eye and a meticulous attention to detail, her approach to dance is conceptual and she bears the name Tangent well, constantly surprising audiences and drawing on art-forms such as Martial Arts, Parkour and Yoga to inform her art.
DJ John Arano
Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, John Arano comes from a rich cultural background rooted in the Philippines. His parents hail from Dauis, Bohol, and his father, also a DJ, introduced John to the world of music from an early age. Growing up in a household filled with vibrant melodies and rhythms, John developed a deep appreciation and understanding of various genres. This early exposure laid the foundation for his unique style and expertise as a DJ. For Capital Sessions he is going to bless us with a deep and soulful set!
