About this Event

Join us as we decommission part of a trail that passes through a sensitive patch of old-

growth forest in Capilano River Regional Park!

This section of Capilano River park has been degraded by Hemlock looper damage (2019-

2022), high visitor use, & off-trail activities. Since the trail’s closure, trees have been felled

across the path and soil has been blown into the site to supplement planting efforts.

With your help, we will be planting native shrub and tree species and constructing fencing

to support the success of the forest’s regeneration. Healthy ecosystems are more resilient

to the negative effects of climate change, such as future insect infestations and drought.

Where: Meet at the Cleveland Dam – Outside of the Public Washrooms:

What: Planting native shrubs/trees and fence construction.

When: November 14, 2025

Time: 9:30AM - 12:30PM

We will provide you with all the information and tools needed for the work we will be doing.

This includes eye protection and gloves, although if people prefer to use their own gloves

they are welcome to do so. Please arrive dressed for the weather (rain or shine), in warm

clothing that can get dirty, with appropriate footwear. Please bring water bottles and a

snack if you tend to get hungry while working. We will provide light snacks and water for

refilling water bottles.

A few things to note about the site:

• There is free parking on-site by the Cleveland Dam.

• The work site is in a public area, be mindful or sharp or hazardous litter.

• There is a washroom at our meeting place. The worksite is a 10-15min walk from the

washroom building.

Please reach out to Lachlan McKinnon if you have any questions or concerns prior to the

event: [email protected] | (604)-803-3002.
