Meet the speakers:
Esra Dogramaci
Esra is a seasoned digital leader with 15 years of experience working internationally with global companies such as Al Jazeera, BBC, and META. She’s an expert in digital transformation, leadership, and empowerment, having returned to Sydney in 2021 after spending 22 years abroad in countries like Canada, the US, Turkey, the UK, Germany, and Qatar. Originally leaving Australia to pursue ice hockey (and becoming the first Australian woman to play college-level hockey in the US), Esra’s journey into journalism began with roles at the United Nations and UNICEF, before she transitioned into newsrooms just as social media became a tool for news dissemination. She was most recently the Managing Editor for Digital News and Current Affairs at SBS, overseeing a team of 47 across editorial, product, and video. Esra is driven by a passion for making complex ideas simple, empowering others, and being a force for good.
Diana Abeleven
As the leader of the journalism and media initiative at Canva, Diana is dedicated to empowering journalists globally. At Canva, her mission is to establish the platform as the ultimate newsroom tool—one that amplifies voices and supports journalism in its most authentic form. With a background in strategic communications and public relations, Diana has spent the last four years building relationships within the journalism community, understanding the challenges they face, and working to provide solutions. Outside of work, Diana is a loving wife and mother to four children, and shares her home with two Cavoodles, Lulu and Teddy.
