In honour of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, Council, in partnership with Gunnedah Family Support and Gunnedah Salvation Army, is hosting a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, 10 December.The 16 Days of Activism, led by UN Women, runs from International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on 25 November, to Human Rights Day on 10 December.
The community event in the Smithurst Theatre courtyard in Conadilly Street will start with a free community barbecue at 7pm and will be followed by a candlelight ceremony on dark.
Battery-operated candles will be provided, and the vigil will include a reading of the names of each victim of domestic violence and intimate partner violence in 2025 followed by one minute’s silence.
