Some key reasons about this event:
1. To remember victims who died as result of domestic and family violence.
2. To raise awareness about the devastating impacts of domestic and family violence.
3. To show support and empathy to all those in the community impacted.
The first Candle Lighting Vigil in Australia took place in Queensland in 2005, organized by 15 members of the Queensland Domestic Violence Services Network (QDVSN). These events continue to be held annually across the country, serving as a poignant reminder of the need for ongoing awareness, prevention, and support.
