Join AMHS for an outing that takes us back in history, a walk along the C&O Canal towpath, followed by lunch at Georgetown Gourmet/Porchetta District. Friends from the Office of Textiles and Apparel/Commerce Department will be joining us!
In Washington, DC, the C&O Canal begins in Georgetown on 29th Street NW, south of M Street. We will meet here at 9:30 a.m., walk for approximately 3 miles roundtrip, then make our way to Porchetta District for one of its various iterations of the “quintessential” Italian street food. (Porchetta District does not open until 10:00 a.m.). The shop does not have indoor seating, so following our sandwich purchases, we will make our way to the Francis Scott Key Memorial Park, 3380 M. Street, N.W., where this is ample seating and shade.
The approximately 3-mile walk is not “mandatory,” you may walk as much as you like. If you plan to meet for lunch only, we will look for you at the park around 11:30 a.m./12:00 p.m.
RSVP: Please contact Maria D’Andrea-Yothers, [email protected] if you plan to join this outing.
Parking/Public Transportation: There are multiple parking and public transportation options (Circulator bus, Metro) to get to Georgetown. See Parking & Getting Here | Georgetown DC - Explore Georgetown in Washington, DC
By Metro: The Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station, located on the blue, orange, and silver lines, is a short 15-minute walk from Georgetown. The Rosslyn, Virginia station, located on the blue, orange, and silver lines, is a short walk across the Key Bridge. For more information, including a map and trip planning feature, visit www.wmata.com.
By Bus: The Circulator offers two FREE lines in Georgetown: east-west from Georgetown to Union Station via downtown; and from Rosslyn, VA through Georgetown to the Dupont Circle Metro station. For more information and a map, visit www.dccirculator.com.
