Canberra | AHE | Beethoven's Eighth | Mozart Symphony No. 40

AHE performs the premiere of Crouch’s 1821 chamber arrangement of Beethoven's Eighth Symphony for septet and Cimador’s equally remarkable 19th-century arrangement of Mozart’s G minor Symphony No. 40.
In an era before recordings or radio, these “authorised” arrangements, created in the composer’s own time, were essential to the success and renown of both Beethoven and Mozart. Played on period instruments in an “unplugged” style, these incredible works come to radiant new life.
The 1821 Crouch arrangement of Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony – his beautiful tribute to Haydn - is a modern premiere performance. As far as we know, this is the first professional performance on period instruments in over 200 years.
What we DO know for certain is that audiences and critics alike say that AHE’s performances bring people into the essence and spirit of the music, often in startlingly clear and wonderfully unexpected ways. These concerts may be historically well informed, but they are anything but dusty!
Also on the program is the world premiere of a new commission by rising star Australian composer Ella Macens, inspired by Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved “letters.
What people say about AHE …
“The music was sublime, it was an appreciated disconnection from my everyday life.”
Beethoven’s Fifth, 2024
“5 stars - unbelievable performance!” Beethoven’s Seventh, 2023
