CAEC is Canada’s new high school equivalency program. It helps adults gain access to better job opportunities or post secondary education.
About this Event

We are pleased to partner with United for Literacy to host their Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) Preparation Program at CAMH.

The CAEC is Canada’s new high school equivalency program, aimed at supporting adults in their goal of gaining access to better job opportunities or admission to college or university.

The Program will provide background, assessments, and instruction on each of the five CAEC subjects -- Reading, Writing, Science, History/Geography, and Math -- so participants will have a clear understanding of the CAEC requirements, what skills they currently have that will support their success, and where they need to improve.

Classes are student-centered, guided by an enthusiastic instructor, supported by tutors, and free of charge.

The fall session will be hosted weekly, in-person in the Patient and Family Learning Space starting on March 24th, Tuesday Mornings, 12:30 PM to 2 PM.

Location: Patient and Family Learning Space at 1025 Queen St. West.

About the facilitator:

Gideon Steinberg (he/him) started working at United for Literacy in 2021, and currently facilitates several programs including a soft skills workshop, a book club, and Pathways to Post Secondary, which provides individualized support to people who are interested in pursuing a college or university education.

Gideon has also worked as an instructor for a high school equivalency program, was a frontline staff member in the Toronto shelter system, taught at a high school for students with developmental disabilities, and has tutored individuals of all ages and educational levels.

He is a firm believer in a student-centred approach to learning, and is mindful of the influence that institutions and systems have in affecting people’s lives.

This program is hosted in collaboration with United for Literacy. United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization. They believe literacy is a right, and operate under the guiding principle that every place is a learning place. They work together with over 500 partners each year to provide innovative literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills programs to over 30,000 children, youth, and adults in over 200 communities across Canada. Their literacy and numeracy support programs are open to everyone, at no cost. To find out more about United for Literacy, please visit www.unitedforliteracy.ca.
