This event is free with park admission. Please arrive before park closure at sunset. Long-sleeve shirts, long pants and bug spray recommended. Join the Park Rangers, Volunteers & Friends of John Pennekamp State Park for a family-friendly, fun evening by the campfire where we roast marshmallows & make s'mores while learning about a fascinating topic featuring the park's unique natural and cultural treasures.
This evening's program is called "Where's it Bean?" where embark on an incredible, long-distance journey exploring the mystery of sea beans. We'll discover how seeds like the heart-shaped Sea Heart or the famous Hamburger Bean fall into rivers like the Amazon, float out to the ocean, and ride the powerful Gulf Stream for months, or even years, before washing up right here on our Florida shores.
Following the presentation, we'll turn these natural treasures into festive holiday keepsakes. We'll use the unique shapes and smooth surfaces of various sea beans to create your own beautiful, one-of-a-kind coastal Christmas ornaments to take home.
