About the Cause
SLC6A1 is a rare genetic neurological disorder that causes epilepsy, developmental delays, movement disorders, and significant challenges for affected children and their families. Until recently, there was no cure, only symptom management.
In September 2025, a major breakthrough occurred:
π The first gene therapy for SLC6A1 was successfully developed.
This milestone means a cure now exists, but it is not yet accessible to most families. Significant funding is still needed to:
β’ Expand clinical trials
β’ Support regulatory approval
β’ Scale production
β’ Ensure children worldwide can access treatment, not just a few
This event is about turning hope into reality by helping bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world access.
This is a family-friendly event welcoming runners, walkers, children, and supporters of all ages.
π In-Kind Donations Welcome
Food, water, kidsβ activities, printing, signage, raffle items, and other goods or services are gratefully accepted and recognized at equivalent sponsorship levels.
