Attention all you beginner gardeners, experienced gardeners, and those just looking for a competition! Calvert City is excited to announce the Homegrown Tomato Contest is BACK for its third year!
1. Pick up your tomato plant and plant it! (We recommend buying your plant at Holly Nursery)!
2. Grow your tomato! (tomatoes can be grown in a pot, in a 5-gallon bucket, or in the ground! Choose what works best for your space)
3. Enter as many tomatoes as you would like between July 1 and September 5.
4. To enter your tomato, you must go to Holly Nursery and complete a form. Holly Nursery will weigh your tomato on-site!
5. Take a photo of your RIPE tomato and tag Calvert City in the photo!
6. Eat your tomato! (We suggest adding it to a BLT)
The winner will be announced after the September 5 date after all tomatoes have been weighed. There is no limit to how many you submit between July 1 and September 5.
Winners will receive a $50 gift card to Holly Nursery, bragging rights for a year, and a Homegrown Tomato Contest T-shirt!
Who can enter?
Anyone can enter the contest!
AWARDS:
Biggest Local Ripe Tomato (Must reside in the city limits of Calvert City, multiple entries accepted)
Biggest Overall Ripe Tomato (Anyone can enter, no matter where you live, multiple entries accepted)
Smallest Ripe Tomato (Anyone can enter, no matter where you live, multiple entries accepted)
RULES & GUIDELINES
Tomato plants can be submitted between July 1 and September 5 at Holly Nursery
Tomatoes must be ripe, no green tomatoes accepted
Tomatoes shall be submitted at Holly Nursery and weighed
In the event of a tie, the circumference of the entry will determine the winner
Multiple tomatoes can be submitted
Winners will be announced on September 6 at Holly Nursery
Judge’s decisions are final
