Notable individuals who shaped local history will be featured in the Sioux City Public Museum’s free Calvary Cemetery Walking Tour on Saturday, April 25. Starting from the cemetery entrance at 2802 Casselman Street at 10:00 a.m., the 90-minute tour will be led by Tom Munson, the Museum’s Archives Manager, and Haley Aguirre, Archival Records Clerk.Participants should be prepared for moderate walking, including hilly terrain, as the tour covers a broad section of the cemetery grounds.
Opened in 1870, Calvary Cemetery is the city’s second oldest and only Catholic cemetery. Some notable figures buried here include department store founder T. S. Martin, rock star Tommy Bolin, Community House founder Mary Treglia, and four bishops of the Sioux City Diocese.
Developed by the Sioux City Public Museum, the cemetery tour series explores the lives of individuals and families who played significant roles in the city's development. In addition to visiting their gravesites, the tour will feature historic photographs, biographical insights, and engaging narratives that bring local history to life.
