Born in the foothills of Northern California, Caltucky is a progressive bluegrass band forging a sound as wild and genuine as the landscapes they come from. Merging the technical precision of traditional string music with the improvisational freedom of jam and Americana, Caltucky brings a modern spark to mountain-born roots.
The quartet — Marty Varner (guitar/mandolin, vocals), Kyle Kunert (banjo, vocals), Elijah McCullough (fiddle), and Tyler Miles (bass) — has become a rising force on the West Coast circuit, known for their kinetic live shows and boundary-stretching arrangements. Their sets weave blistering instrumentals, harmony-rich originals, and reimagined covers that shift from foot-stomping breakdowns to trancey groove explorations without ever losing the bluegrass heartbeat.
Recognized as a Showcase Artist by the California Bluegrass Association, Caltucky has performed at festivals including Strawberry Music Festival, WinterWonderGrass, Hog Farm Hideaway, Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, and Huck Finn Jubilee, sharing stages with scene pillars like Leftover Salmon, The String Cheese Incident, and AJ Lee & Blue Summit.
