The pride of the Gold Country, Caltucky has long since outgrown its initial status as an underground phenomenon. Establishing itself as a formidable force within the Nor Cal jamgrass scene and beyond, the impact of their performances grows more powerful by the day. Since we last saw these guys here at the Crazy Horse in May of ’23, they’ve taken a quantum leap. The band received a massive injection of energy and musical prowess with the addition of two new members: bassist Daniel “Dellow” Roholt and mandolinist Marty Varner. These cats are string assassins and positive vibe ambassadors. The chemistry is off-the-charts and the sky truly seems like the limit for Caltucky. Influenced by traditional and progressive bluegrass, they also incorporate inspiration from the realms of jam-rock, soul and even jazz. This is a hard-grooving unit on a collective mission to set dancefloors ablaze. Their signature style has become synonymous with a diverse collection of melodic currents flowing through their wealth of compositions. Sonic experimentation is also a running thread with a tasteful nod to the great Billy Strings and the more psychedelic side of the genre. Along with catchy originals, they take an innovative approach to covers, reinventing songs to the audience’s delight. Their fanbase is bursting with enthusiasm which contributes to a pervasive sense of joy at every Caltucky show.
The band has enthralled audiences at some of the most prestigious festivals in the regions including WinterWondergrass, Strawberry Music Festival, Father’s Day Bluegrass, Hog Farm Hideaway, Huck Finn Jubilee, Dead on the Creek and Sugar Pine. They have supported such world class artists as String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, Melvin Seals and JGB, David Nelson Band and AJ Lee & Blue Summit.
