About This Event
Ever watched someone squat heavy or deadlift with effortless form and thought "how do they do that"?
This is how.
Strong Start is your low-pressure, high-fun intro to the barbell and kettlebell — coached in our 1,500 sq ft Calgary HQ. In 90 minutes, you'll learn the fundamentals of the back squat, deadlift, and key kettlebell movements (swings, deadlift, squat) — then put it all together in a short, beginner-friendly workout.
No experience required. Just bring a willingness to learn and move.
Meet Your Coach
You'll be learning from Mo Youssef, head coach at Bells of Steel. Mo holds a National Certificate in Strength & Conditioning and trained under Olympic champion Mohamed Ehab. He specializes in coaching adults — especially newer lifters and the 40+ crowd — and has a knack for breaking complex movements into cues that actually click.
If you've ever felt intimidated by the barbell, Mo is the person you want in your corner.
What You'll Learn
- Proper setup and technique for the back squat
- How to deadlift safely with a barbell
- Kettlebell fundamentals: swing, deadlift, and squat
- Bracing, breathing, and movement cues you can take to any gym
Who This Is For
This workshop is open to the public and designed for beginners. It's perfect if you're brand new to lifting, returning after time away, or training at home and want real, hands-on coaching from an expert.
Requirements
- No lifting experience required
- Able to perform a comfortable air squat and hip hinge pattern
- Injury-free, or cleared to train by a medical professional
Before You Register, Please Confirm
When you sign up, you'll be asked to confirm the following:
- I can perform at least 5 controlled bodyweight squats
- I can hinge to mid-shin, or am willing to be coached
- I am injury-free or cleared to train
- I agree to the waiver and photo release
