Night at the Library: The Unwritten Story is a magical, after-hours roving theatrical adventure where children don’t just watch the story, they SAVE it!Created by Box Jelly Theatre Co., especially for Cairns Children’s Festival, and set inside the Cairns City Library after dark, this immersive experience transforms young audiences into heroes on a mission to restore the magic of stories. The journey begins when a frantic library security guard makes a chilling discovery, a book that is completely grey and blank! With the children’s help, they soon realise it’s not the only one - the stories of the library are disappearing.
Guided by curiosity and imagination, the audience explores hidden corners of the library, unlocks secret passages and ventures into spaces rarely seen by the public. Through hands-on moments, movement, and surprise encounters, children actively restore colour, characters, and storytelling to the space around them.
Night at the Library: The Unwritten Story celebrates the joy of stories, the wonder of books, and the library as a place of adventure, discovery, and belonging, inviting children to see reading not as a task, but as magic waiting to be awakened.
