Course description:
CADS (Canadian Adaptive Snowsports) Certification Courses are instructor training courses set by the CADS Technical Committee. Each
division’s course conductors follow specific criteria to train and certify
instructors to teach skiing and snowboarding to persons with a disability.
Any strong intermediate skier or snowboarder, with or without a disability, 15 years or older, who is interested in teaching persons with
disabilities about the “joys” of skiing or snowboarding may take this
course.
A CADS Certification Course will provide information and teaching
skills about working with persons disabilities. This CADS Ski Level 1
certification covers 4 modules, Visual Impairment, Sit-Ski , 3- and 4-
track and Neurodiversity. Candidates will learn tools and skills to
support learners living with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. You
will also learn the assessment of abilities, teaching strategies, communication and the use of some adaptive equipment. The course will
take place online and on snow, and follows the evaluation criteria set
out in the CADS Level 1 Study Guide.
A full Level 1 Certification is required should you wish to pursue Level
2, 3 or 4 certification courses.
Course conductor: Corinne Risler (Ski) Corinne a Level 4 instructor
with Canadian Adaptive Snowsports (CADS) and a member/instructor
of the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance, Canadian Ski Coaches Federation, and BC Adaptive Snowsports, (BCAS). She is part of the Snowbility Program in BC which assists in the development of sustainable
adaptive snowsport programs in British Columbia. Corinne also volunteers her time teaching adaptive lessons through Vancouver Adaptive
Snowsports and Whistler Adaptive and leads many of the skill improvement sessions for volunteer instructors.
