ON THE FLY, University of the Incarnate Word, Diane Bennack Concert Hall, 4301 Broadway St, San Antonio, TX 78209 Friday, July 19 • 7pm“On the Fly,” a program performed without intermission, begins with Rebecca Clarke’s mystical and evocative Midsummer Moon for violin and piano, performed by Artistic Director Emerita Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio with current Artistic Director Jeffrey Sykes. It continues with the exciting Piano Trio in E-flat Major, op. 70, no. 2, of Beethoven performed by Sykes, Sant’Ambrogio, and cellist Lachezar Kostov. The notes in that finale just fly by! The program concludes with a rare and wonderful treat: Gershwin’s complete ballet An American in Paris in its very original incarnation for two pianos. Yes, long before Gershwin orchestrated this iconic work, and long before Gene Kelley was on the fly in the dance sequences from the movie, this was a work for two pianos. It will be performed by Artistic Director Sykes with superstar pianist Christopher Taylor.
