About this Event
Make the Cup You'll Drink From
Most mugs are just mugs. This one, you'll shape with your own hands — and fill for years.
On Saturday, May 16th, SUGARHAUS and Dumbo Ceramics are hosting a special afternoon that moves slowly, on purpose. You'll begin with a guided ceremonial cacao tasting, then spend the afternoon building your own mug from clay. No prior experience needed.
The Experience
We open with cacao — warm, grounding, and intentional. This isn't hot chocolate. It's minimally processed, ceremonial-grade cacao sourced directly from small farms in Guatemala, rich in magnesium and theobromine — compounds known to offer a gentle lift in focus and mood, without the crash.
This isn't a typical workshop. Cacao has a known effect of making people more open, present, and at ease with each other — which means the social side of the afternoon happens on its own. You'll leave with a mug and, likely, a few real connections.
Then you'll work with clay. The Dumbo Ceramics team will guide you through building your mug by hand — coiling, smoothing, shaping — at whatever pace feels right. The cacao stays with you throughout, woven into the afternoon rather than set aside. By the end, you'll carve and decorate your piece before the team takes it for firing and glazing.
Two weeks later, you return to pick up something finished and entirely yours.
