We are excited to be joined for the first time in our C. Bechstein Centre Manchester recital series by Luis Lopez!
The evening's programme will be:
Part One:
Mompou
Selections from Música Callada (1967)
The recital begins with the meditative and spiritually evocative pieces from Música callada by Frederic Mompou. These compositions, known for their delicate and introspective nature, invite the listener into a realm where silence and sound merge, reflecting Mompou's deep connection to Catalan mysticism and his minimalist aesthetic.

Albéniz
Evocación & El Puerto (1909)
Next, the program moves into the vivid and richly textured world of Isaac Albéniz with Evocación and El puerto from his celebrated Iberia suite. These pieces capture the essence of Spanish landscapes and traditions, with Evocación portraying the nostalgic spirit of Andalusia and El puerto bringing to life the vibrant rhythms of a bustling port city.

Granados
Selections from 12 Danzas Españolas: Andaluza & Galante (1895)
Enrique Granados continues the exploration of Spanish musical heritage with selections from his 12 Danzas Españolas. Andaluza offers a passionate and rhythmically rich depiction of Andalusian dance, while Galante presents an elegant and refined interpretation of Spanish courtly dance, showcasing Granados’ ability to blend romanticism with folkloric elements.

Satie
Selections from Gnosiennes (1889)
The first part concludes with the mysterious and minimalist Gnosiennes by Erik Satie. These pieces, with their unconventional rhythms and haunting melodies, transport the listener into a surreal and introspective soundscape, marking a departure from traditional structures and offering a contemplative close to the first half of the recital.

Part Two:
Beethoven
Sonata No. 9, Op. 14 No. 1
The second part of the recital opens with Beethoven’s Sonata No. 9, Op. 14 No. 1. This early work, characterized by its elegance and lyrical themes, showcases Beethoven’s mastery of classical sonata form while hinting at the emotional depth and dynamic contrasts that define his later compositions.

Schubert
Impromptu Op. 90 No. 2
The recital concludes with Schubert’s Impromptu Op. 90 No. 2, a piece that epitomizes Schubert's gift for melody and emotional expression. With its flowing arpeggios and serene atmosphere, this Impromptu offers a soothing and lyrical finale, leaving the audience with a sense of warmth and introspection.
