BYOR Play Test: Open Rules for the City
- Saturday, 24 January, 4.30–6.30pm
- Saturday, 31 January, 4.30–6.30pm
As part of Singapore Art Week, this participatory activation of Bring Your Own Racket (BYOR) turns the public art sculpture into a live testing ground for new ways of playing in the city. Participants are invited to join a collective play session around the artwork. Bring your own “racket” or any object you’d like to use as a racket, from sports equipment to improvised everyday objects, or come try some of the playful tools provided on site. Rally with friends, devise new game instructions, challenges, and play tactics for BYOR, then play test spontaneous variations with one another. These shared experiments will be added to a growing BYOR playbook around the sculpture, expanding the set of game instructions and play tactics for future activations. Turning the artwork into a stage for collective improvisation, BYOR Play Test invites participants to reflect on how play can be reimagined in our everyday routines and our urban environment.
Participation is free; please register in advance via this eventbrite link.
About the public artwork
Bring Your Own Racket (BYOR) is a public artwork by artists Aaron Lim and Quek Jia Qi, presented as part of Singapore Art Week 2026, supported by National Arts Council.
BYOR transforms a familiar badminton net into a sculptural stage for play and encounter. Set within the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD), the public interactive installation invites people to bring their rackets, move through its shifting heights, or simply linger. By reimagining a common game as an artistic and social gesture, BYOR sparks moments of spontaneity, connection, and joy amid the city’s everyday rhythm.
