About this Event
Through a series of large-scale oil paintings, this exhibition explores the Emperor and the Clown as a symbol of both elite gathering and raw, instinctive human emotion. These works act as evidence of moments frozen in time, blending the refined aesthetics of high society with a bold, figurative style that is as provocative as it is personal.
Emmanuel Kazadi (b. 1995, Atlanta) is a Congolese painter, raised in Paris, France, and Fine Arts graduate of Hofstra University. His work functions as a "distortion of sight," utilizing a raw, instinctive application of oil to process the tension between opulent facades and the visceral reality of the witness.
Drawing on the narrative energy of African popular painting and the psychological grit of modern figurative masters, Kazadi’s canvases reject the polished for the urgent. His work is a high-distortion account of a stage far too complex for a child to navigate, captured through a lens of monumental scale and unapologetic mark-making.
